Animation has become a very important factor in web site design. Long gone are the days when a web site had static text and pictures. Animation can be achieved by many means such as Flash, JavaScript, or animated gifs, to name a few. The challenge for a web designer is making sure that what is designed and meant to be seen by a web visitor, can actually be seen on their computer. Flash animation requires the free Flash plug-in and animation via JavaScript requires that the user's browser be JavaScript enabled. |
Animated Gifs (pronounced "Jiffs"), on the other hand, do not require any special plug-ins or settings on the user's computer. For this reason, animated Gifs are a great way to make a fun, dynamic site without worry that some visitors will not be able to see it. By taking ordinary, static graphics and turning them into animated Gifs, web sites go from plain and static to fun and dynamic! See a few examples of animated Gifs & Flash below. See more examples in the web sites I have designed - links can be found on the Web Design page. |
