Wow, power to the people... one celeb calls on tweeters everywhere .... showing that one person, via the internet only, can amass the larger following. But hmmmm, CNN announced this race on their program ALL day so technically, they are both powering the same boat.

Whatever the engine that is driving this race, it does show that
social media marketing sites, like
Twitter, Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn,
have A LOT OF POWER.
And in this case, Ashton is pledging help in the fight against malaria!

Twitter was having trouble keeping up with the onslaught of activity during the race between Ashton Kutcher and CNN Breaking News in the race to 1 million Twitter followers.

Take a look at @aplusk's (Ashton's) page, which continually showed errors in the number of followers. The errors ranged from showing zero followers all the way to over 3 million. See below. CNN's page had the same errors off and on.
